It was J.W. as in JOHN WESLEY SHOEMAKER
1. JOHN WESLEY2 SHOEMAKER (ISAAC1) was born October 11, 1841, and died February 26, 1909 in Ashville, OH. He married ANGELINE MOORE April 10, 1864. Notes for JOHN WESLEY SHOEMAKER:
Newspaper Obituary:
John Wesley SHOEMAKER, eldest son of Isaac and Henrietta (WAGNER) SHOEMAKER, was born at Lancaster, Ohio, October 11th 1841, and died at his home in Ashville, Ohio, February 26, 1909, aged 67 years, 4 months, 11 days.

When less than 20 years old, September 17, 1861, he enlisted in the service of his country in company F. 17th Ohio Volunteers I. and served to the end of the war, being mustered out at Camp Chase June 23rd, 1865. He was engaged in 20 battles, was wounded at Chickamauga, Tennessee, September 17th, 1863, but reenlisted December 27, 1863. He was captured by the Confederates at Covington, Georgia, November 11, 1864, and was confined in various prison pens, especially at Andersonville, until the end of the war. Very few soldiers rendered more valiant service than did he.

While on furlough he was united in marriage with Angeline MOORE, April 10, 1864. To this union was born one son, William. Besides the son there remains the wife, three brothers, William and George of Findlay, Ohio and Charles of Columbus, and one sister, Mrs. C.P. REES, of Canal Winchester, of the immediate family, to mourn his departure.

He was a man of public spirit, ever ready to help in any laudable enterprise. He organized the first public Memorial Service in the vicinity of Ashville, was Ashville's first Marshal and was for four years connected with the Boys Industrial School at Lancaster. For about 18 years he was a member of the Ashville Methodist Episcopal Church, and for several years was a trustee of the same.

The funeral was held at the residence of the deceased, Sunday at 3 pm, and internment was at Canal Winchester, Monday, 10 am, services being conducted by his pastor, Reverend Hefley, who had performed his marriage ceremony more than forty years before.

Child of JOHN SHOEMAKER and ANGELINE MOORE is: i. WILLIAM3 SHOEMAKER, b. March 1866.
